Ingredients
Semolina-1cup
Maida/all purpose Flour-1cup
Baking soda-one pinch(opt)
Sugar or jaggery -depends up on ur taste ..
Salt-one pinch
Grated coconut-4tbsp
Sesame seeds-1tsp
Ghee-2tbsp
Coconut oil/veg oil-for frying
Method
Roast rave for 3-4 minutes for until its raw smell goes
Now to this add maida and mix well.. If u want to make unniyappam quickly then add baking soda .. otherwise no need..
Then to this add sugar or jaggery ..here i added sugar but jaggery is also good, its more similar authentic unniyappm ..
If so melt jaggery (one block is enough i think) and strain .. after cooling down pour this to the maida rava ..Mix well ..
Then add salt and enough water to make an idly batter consistency … mix well with out any lumps ..
Heat 1 tbsp of ghee and roast sesame seeds and pour that to the batter ..
Again heat ghee and roast grated coconut until golden brown ..
Add this roasted coconut too and mix well.. Close the container for 2 hours ..
Then pour oil in to the holes of the unniyappam chatti..
When medium hot add one table spoon of batter to each whole and cook ..
After one minute flip the appam to upside down and cook until fully cooked.
by then u can see a nice golden colour appearing ..
So easy tasty unniyappam is ready ..Enjoy …
Note : Don’t expect the taste of authentic unniyappam ,but u can def try this ,i am sure u will like this .. The main think is its easy to make and kids will enjoy ..
Love
