Green peas masala

Ingredients

Green Peas-1cup

Big onion-2

Tomato-1

Ginger-garlic paste -1tbsp

Chilly powder-1/2tsp

Coriander powder-2tsp

Turmeric powder-1/4tsp

Garam masala -1/4tsp

Green chilly-1

Curry leaves-1 string

Thick Coconut milk-1cup

Coconut oil-1tbsp

Green peas masala

Method


Soak peas in water for at least 4 hours .(U can use fresh peas also)

After that pressure cook it by adding salt and water.

Heat oil in a pan .Add ginger -garlic paste and saute for 1 minute .

Then add sliced onion ,green chilly ,curry leaves and pinch of salt.

Saute them till the onion become light brown in colour.

Mix all the powders in 2tbsp of water and add this mix to the onion ..

Cook it until the raw smell goes.Now add tomato pieces and stir well ..

Saute them well until the oil began to separate .

Add cooked peas to this mix and stir well ..Allow to boil .

Finally add thick coconut milk to this and boil for 1 minute by stirring continuously .Check the salt

If  u dont want to add coconut milk u can omit this step.

Transfer this peas masala to the serving dish and decorate with coriander leaves.Serve with appam ,chapaty etc

Ingredients

 

 

Shallots (Small onion)- 200gms

 

Red chilly – 5-6nos

 

 

Grated coconut – 1\2 of 1

 

Coriander seeds – 11/2tbsp

 

Turmeric powder – 1\4 tsp

 

Tamarind – 1 small lemon size

 

Coconut oil – 2 table spoon

 

Mustard seeds-1/2tsp

 

Curry leaves-1 string

 

Salt -to taste

 

Method

 

Cut onion lengthwise into thin pieces.

 

Fry red chilly,coriander seeds ,coconut and turmeric powder till it become brown in colour.

 

Grind it into a fine smooth paste.

 

Heat oil in a pan or kadai

 

Splutter mustard seeds,add curry leaves,onion and saute.

 

Saute the onion till it light brown..

 

Add the tamarind water to it and cook for 5 minutes by stirring occasionally.

 

 

Add the ground paste to it with 3-4 cups water.

 

Now add salt and stir well..

 

Boil till the gravy thickens ..

 

 

Note

We used to grind coconut in ammi kallu wih out adding water ..So that oils comes from it..D it will add taste to the theeyal..If u got ammikallu grind the masala with that …

Dal Fry

Ingredients

Toor dal-3/4cup

Hing(kayam)-very very small piece

Big onion-1(chopped finely)

Tomato-1(chopped finely)

Ginger-small piece(chopped)

Garlic -2(chopped)

Cumin seeds-1/4tsp

Green chilly-3(chopped)

Turmeric powder-1/4tsp

Chilly powder-1/4tsp

Salt- to taste

Butter or refined oil -1Tbsp

Coriander  leaves-1/4cup

Mustard seeds-(opt)

 

Method

Wash  dal properly and pressure cook  by adding hing and enough water  ..Cook well..

Normally 2 whistle is enough ..

Open the cooker when the pressure settles and keep aside ..

Now heat a pan and add butter or oil into it .

Then splutter cumin seeds .

Then add the onion,ginger,garlic and green chilly ..

Saute them well until its raw smell goes..

Now lower the flame and add turmeric powder and chilly powder and stir for few seconds ..

Then add the chopped tomatoes and salt, saute well and cover the pan with a lid in a lower flame for 2 minutes …

Now add the cooked dal and mix well and mash with a spatula..

Let the dal boil for 5 minutes .The gravy should be semi medium thick ..

Now add the chopped coriander leaves  and asafetida powder …

So the tasty dal fry is ready to serve..
