Ingredients
Toor dal-3/4cup
Hing(kayam)-very very small piece
Big onion-1(chopped finely)
Tomato-1(chopped finely)
Ginger-small piece(chopped)
Garlic -2(chopped)
Cumin seeds-1/4tsp
Green chilly-3(chopped)
Turmeric powder-1/4tsp
Chilly powder-1/4tsp
Salt- to taste
Butter or refined oil -1Tbsp
Coriander leaves-1/4cup
Mustard seeds-(opt)
Method
Wash dal properly and pressure cook by adding hing and enough water ..Cook well..
Normally 2 whistle is enough ..
Open the cooker when the pressure settles and keep aside ..
Now heat a pan and add butter or oil into it .
Then splutter cumin seeds .
Then add the onion,ginger,garlic and green chilly ..
Saute them well until its raw smell goes..
Now lower the flame and add turmeric powder and chilly powder and stir for few seconds ..
Then add the chopped tomatoes and salt, saute well and cover the pan with a lid in a lower flame for 2 minutes …
Now add the cooked dal and mix well and mash with a spatula..
Let the dal boil for 5 minutes .The gravy should be semi medium thick ..
Now add the chopped coriander leaves and asafetida powder …
So the tasty dal fry is ready to serve..

I usually dont add ginger or garlic..rest all the ingredients are the same..i m will definitely try ur recipe next time i make dal with chapathi 🙂
